FLORENCIA MANÓVIL - Owner/Producer

A regular night drinking with her party-oriented friends turns into an eye-opening evening when young Claudia encounters the captivating foreigner Isabel, who challenges her perceptions of latinos - and her understanding of herself.

About the Artist:

Florencia Manóvil was voted "Best Filmmaker of the East Bay" for her work as a screenwriter, director, and producer based in Oakland, California. Her web series Dyke Central (https://www.dykecentral.com/florencia-manovil) has been lauded by press and fans alike for the groundbreaking diversity in its representation of LGBTQ characters. Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Manóvil moved to Boston at age 18 to pursue film studies at Emerson College. In 2007 she settled permanently in the Bay Area, where she shot Fiona's Script (2009, http://mynahfilms.wixsite.com/mynahfilms/blank-2), her feature directorial debut. Between 2011 and 2015, Manóvil co-created Dyke Central, a "queer dramedy" episodic, directing and producing the ten-episode long Oakland-based season 1.

In 2016 Manóvil wrote and directed the short "Encuentro" (http://mynahfilms.wixsite.com/mynahfilms/encuentro), which was also awarded a Frameline Completion Fund, and screened at more than 25 film festivals in 2017.

Her new feature, Bridges, is a triptych film about queer women who use different esoteric practices to survive and thrive in a patriarchal world. One of its parts was shot in August 2018, with the rest slated to go into production in early 2019.
